Asking for Goodness and Protection from Different Kinds of Evil in the Morning and Evening
🍃 ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd (رضی اللہ عنہ) narrated that when the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) entered the evening, he would say:
Amsaynā wa amsal-mulku lillāhi wal-ḥamdu lillāh. Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamd, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr. Rabbi asʾaluka khayra mā fī hādhihil-laylah wa khayra mā baʿdahā, wa aʿūdhu bika min sharri mā fī hādhihil-laylah wa sharri mā baʿdahā. Rabbi aʿūdhu bika minal-kasali wa sūʾil-kibar. Rabbi aʿūdhu bika min ʿadhābin fin-nāri wa ʿadhābin fil-qabr.
We have entered the evening, and all dominion belongs to Allah, and all praise belongs to Allah. There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone; He has no partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and all praise, and He has power over all things. My Lord, I ask You for the good of this night and the good that follows it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil that follows it. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and the misery of old age. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from punishment in the Fire and from punishment in the grave.
🍃 And in the morning, the Prophet (ﷺ) would say:
Aṣbaḥnā wa aṣbaḥal-mulku lillāhi wal-ḥamdu lillāh. Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamd, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr. Rabbi asʾaluka khayra mā fī hādhāl-yawm wa khayra mā baʿdah, wa aʿūdhu bika min sharri mā fī hādhāl-yawm wa sharri mā baʿdah. Rabbi aʿūdhu bika minal-kasali wa sūʾil-kibar. Rabbi aʿūdhu bika min ʿadhābin fin-nāri wa ʿadhābin fil-qabr.
